If you’re looking for an inexpensive, good-quality, brand name metranome to maintain tempo while you play, you’re in the right spot.
I’ve researched the Korg TM-40 and it is very popular. It doubles as a digital tuner as well. As I’ve mentioned in my reviews, digital pianos themselves never go out of tune, but if you want to tune a regular piano or guitar, this will help you to do that. You can also take it anywhere you like as it will practically fit in your pocket being only about 5″ x 5″.
Korg Metranome – What’s It Got?
The large metranome display has a big LCD needle which can be seen very well. Built-in LED lights will flash to the pace of the tempo. A large, adjustable volume, speaker emits a crisp mentranome sound. A couple owner reviews that I came across thought that the sound could be a bit louder, but you can fix that by hooking up an external speaker via the output jack.
There are 2 tempo modes – a Beat mode in which you can choose from a variety of preset tempos, and a Tap mode in which you can customize the tempo to your liking. Tempos can range anywhere from 40 to 208 beats per minute and be set to either full step or pendulum.
This metronome runs on 2 AAA batteries only – no AC adapter option – which will yield about 50 hours of use. There is built-in memory however which will retain all of your custom settings if turned off.
Here’s a video in which the Korg TM-40 is used:
Here are some comments from owners that I came across:
“The metronome function is VERY easy to use.”
“This is a nice metronome. It’s large display allows my old eyes to see it well.”
“This is an excellent metronome and tuner for any serious musician!”
For the price, you’d be hard-pressed to find a better metranome, plus you get the added benefit of a tuner as well. The owner feedback is very positive.
